About the Artist
Karen Lynn Ingalls began working seriously in collage in the early nineties, and began incorporating it, block printing, relief printing, stencils, and drawing, into her mixed media pieces over the last decade and a half.
But when she was eighteen, and first in college, she began collecting quotations she particularly liked. She wrote them on 3"x5" cards, filed alphabetically by author, listing her sources, and kept them in two oak recipe card file boxes. When she discovered her friend Theresa did the same thing, they began exchanging their favorite quotations – even, after Theresa moved away, mailing each other the ones they loved most, written on 3"x5" cards.
Karen studied Art, English Literature, and World and Comparative Literature in college, and earned her teaching credential in both Art and English. But the two worlds intersected seldom, it seemed — at least so it seemed at the time. She occasionally painted mixed media paintings with punny titles (while recognizing many people find the love of puns a serious flaw!).
Finally it occurred to her that she might mix her artwork, media, sense of humor, love of quotations, and love of a good pun, all in the same places. Thus, these series of mixed media paintings were born....
